The station identifier on my Narco (yeh, that's right, "Narco") NAV-121 stopped working. The glideslope on my NAV-122 stops working when it is warmed up. The course indicator needle works good. Just recently, my Narco COMM display stopped working, though on a recent flight it started working again. So, I am thinking about replacing the NAV 121 and the COMM and keep using ForeFlight/Stratus 2 GPS that I have.
My avionics guy made a couple of suggestions. Garmin 650 (at $13K installed), with a GNC 255 (an additional $7K intalled) and if I want to be prepared for 2020, ADS-B out Data Link ($25K total). My avionics guy is a Garmin dealer and i think the price he quoted me on the GNC 255 ($7K installed) is a good price.
Though my aircraft is a 67 Arrow, it is in great shape otherwise and I really like it, I don't want to sink $19-20,000 into it that I may not be able to get back when I sell it. And it seem that I have much the same capability (except certified IFR) and more in my iPad Mini, ForeFlight and Stratus 2. And I like using the VOR/LOC/ILS approaches.
My question is, "Is there anyone else out there that manufactures new reliable NAV/COMM units besides Garmin?" It seems Garmin has kind of cornered the market.
