Hello! I’m new here, read a lot of threads, but looking for advice. Buying a PA-28R in a couple of days, and having a new panel cut and installing a GI-275 engine monitor to improve the organization of everything because it’s got switches and CBs in unnatural (for me) places. So I am asking this question because I don’t want to cut a panel and regret it, but also turn it into a “well, while you’re in there…” situation.

Long intro to the question, should I add a nav#2 and change the existing CDI to a CDI and GS like a KN-214?

NOT instrument rated yet, going to train in the airplane. I’m not planning on being a low ifr to mins guy, but a let’s get through clouds and go somewhere nice guy. It would be nice to have multiple options when things go pear sheared. If the Taliban and Iraqi insurgents didn’t get me, I don’t want my own stupidity too.

Existing Avionics:

Aspen Pro Max 1000
GNC 355
KX-125 nav/comm
GMA-340 audio
ESG Stratus Transponder
Bendix King Aerocruze 100 AP
I also have my sentry plus and FF for adsb-in

Concerns:

Redundancy on non-gps approaches (given the AP is not certified to fly them now and that BK isn’t gonna do anything about it)
DME requirement if destination is GPS approaches only and alternate requirements mean a DME based approach.

I appreciate any guidance for a first time airplane owner and new guy.
