I'm sure this isn't the first or last time this topic will come up but I'm wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what is going wrong with one of my narco radios.

I have dual mk12d radios. When I first bought the plane the top radio display was slightly dimmer than the bottom. You could cover the little dimmer sensor and it would flicker a little bit and sometimes clear up. Over a month or two the display became unreadable (worthless radio). Since the display was responsive to the auto dimmer sensor wondering if that identifies a specific problem.

I'm wondering if the dimmer sensor is a separate part/repair than the display itself and if so what that means for the repair. I am just trying to educate myself before calling repair shops and saying I've got a broken narco... without giving them an idea of what has happened.
