This is not a real serious question. More trying to understand the big picture.

I know the Mode C transponder and the ADS-B unit must share the same encoder source.

Can the encoder uses grey code lines to the transponder and RS 232 to the ADS-B?

My thought is yes.

The Grey code lines ( not that I tested this) should be faster than RS 232. parallel vs serial.
