"I manage an engine shop and this has become a huge issue for us. Lycoming told their distributors just this week that they will not even process a new PO for cylinders until 2023 because they are backordered that far. My orders with superior for Millennium cylinders keep getting pushed back and a new order I placed this week was confirmed with a delivery date of 10-12-22. I do not have enough cylinders on order to meet my normal demand of my most common engines (320’s and 360’s) even for two months. This means we will only be able to provide engine overhauls with overhauled cylinders which is not ideal. We have about 10 engines in the shop built up waiting on cylinders from Lycoming that have been on order since may and June, even one engine where the cylinders were ordered in January. I have a lot of cylinder cores but I will need them to be able to deliver engines. I normally sell many overhauled cylinders every month but we have started to have to tell customers no. I hate to do it and I know they can’t fly but I need to support my business so I can keep my employees on the payroll. This is a tough time and it’s going to be a big challenge for the next year and probably longer."
