On my last BFR, we were approaching the airport from the west, planning a landing on rwy. 02. I announced entering a RH downwind for 02. Instructor said I should have said I was entering a LH downwind for 02. Patterns are LH for all runways there. I told him I thought if I was approaching from the East I would announce a entering a LH downwind. Why would you say you were entering a LH downwind when you were turning Right? Couldn't figure it out. I can't even remember his explanation at the time. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks.
