Hello,
I am a new owner of a '77 Lance (N/A) and am just starting my transition training with an instructor. I'm instrument rated with a couple hundred hours so still a relatively low-time pilot. I did my instrument rating in a Diamond DA-40 and I had all of the necessary power settings down pat in that plane. My process in the Diamond was to slow down enough to get in flaps at least a mile prior to the FAF. At 1 mile prior to the FAF, I would configure the plane for landing (fuel pump/fullest tank, 1st notch of flaps, mixture, prop, GUMPS check) which left only backing down the throttle and trimming for 90kts and -450FPM for a precision approach.
I would like to follow a similar structure in the Lance, knowing that my gear down speed is 129kts and flaps avail at 106kts. I would also consider a faster approach speed as well since the Lance actually will slow down unlike the Diamond which will float like crazy if fast. I wanted to pick the collective brains of the experienced folks on this forum. Here are the settings/info I'm looking for:
MP/RPM to hold 129kts or a little less steady straight and level with gear up and no flaps in?
MP for a steady 500 FPM descent at 90kts with 1st flaps, gear down, and prop full forward?
-MP for a steady 500 FPM descent at 100kts with 1st flaps gear down, and prop full forward?
-Target airspeed to "cross the fence" on short final?
-How far ahead of the FAF do you drop the gear?
And for the standard pattern:
-MP/RPM on Downwind, Base, and Final
Any and all help and input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
