Lance gear issues

I have a 1976 Piper lance that the gear will NOT motor down, When we put it on Jacks we can hear the gear motor running but the gear does not come down we have to hit the emergency extend to get the gear to fall down It goes up perfectly and stays up without the pump coming on Has anyone else expierenced this?
