My king KN62A DME display failed on a 3 hour trip last month. It is showing the number 8 on the extreme left and you can see sweeping across the rest of the display.
I am aware of the issue with dodgy contacts on the gas discharge display - cleaning did not work so it went into the repair shop. Also the light dependent resistor which dims the display was replaced 3 years ago and is in good condition
The repair shop
1. Tried a known working display from another DME to rule out issues with the display - no changes
2. Replaced the two driver chips with the proper OEM ones (not the cheap Chinese copies that are on the market).
3. Changed a diode and transistor which also usually give issues.
This normally repairs 95% of DME's but mine has not responded. Does anybody have any suggestions as we are about to give up on the unit. I am based in the United Kingdom BTW.
