Is a second CDI needed?

I have a Garmin 530W and a CDI that gies with it. I also have a KX155 with G/S with a CDI for that comm/nav as well. I am wanting some type of Engine Monitor or at least a FF gauge. I am fairly limited on space that puts it within a normal scan. I am not wanting to replace all my gauges, just be able to keep track of fuel burned and health of the engine. I am thinking about putting it place of CDI #2.
