We just got back from a trip to Neosho, MO where this radio issue showed up. The radio has been fine since installed almost a year ago, no I don't think it is the actual radio.

The radio is a Garmin SL-30, I also use a 2 place PS Engineering portable intercom. The headsets are conventional David Clarks, a few years old but otherwise nice shape.

I have switched headsets around, and also bypassed the intercom, plugging directly into the panel, with the same squeal.

The squeal is present roughly 70% of the time, annoying for ATC and as side-tone. Until this week, the setup has been great.

I just started trouble shooting, maybe something in the electrical system? The ammeter needle seems normal. I do have the 'split master' & thought maybe next time I could try the radio with the alternator off? Chances are just trying the radio with the engine off, all would work normal.

The alternator was overhauled in 2004, if that's a consideration. Just looking for ideas to try before I delve deeper. I like to start simple before getting to the hard(& expensive) stuff.
