Hey guys! Good news, I signed over the paperwork on my first airplane this weekend: a 1965 PA-28-140/160. I love how it flies and enjoy getting overtaken by cars on the freeway. First time in a piper and I love it.
Took it out for a couple hours today and I was hit with the agony and ecstasy of airplane ownership. When I got out to the plane today I noticed that there was what appears to be engine oil around the vents on the front of the nose.
I found it a bit odd, called the former owner (we are friends) and he hadn't seen that before. I wiped the oil off and flew it for about an hour to find on arrival that the oil had been sprayed there again.
I looked around some more and found that there was a pool of oil sitting inside the prop hub(?) after the plane had sat for an hour.
My novice guess is that either the cap that seals the internal part of the crankshaft is leaking or the seal between the outside of the crankshaft and the case are leaking. Anyone have any experience with this? Oil pressure was in the high green range the whole flight and all other indications of the engine were fine. I sent these photos off to my mechanic too but I thought I'd ask around.
Thanks.
