How to communicate if running late on a flight

I found myself running late on a flight due to weather - concerned individuals on the ground were worried - does anyone know of a proven method to communicate non emergency situations to loved ones, work colleagues who maybe waiting for you on the ground? Texting, telephone, ground based radios?
