Total newbie here - just cert'd about a month ago. 1966 PA-28 140 w 160HP
On a 90 minute pleasure ride last weekend mid flight my "Gen Amps" meter went to zero (I might have heard a click). It concerned me and I got home as quickly as possible for fear of losing the radios, GPS etc - engine of course was running fine.
A friend and a local mech said it was likely and over voltage and reset of master switch or breakers would fix it.
Went out this a.m. for a planned 2.5 trip to see a friend of 40+ years, started it up and meter still at zero - no luck with breakers, etc.
Local mech feels the battery could be too low to reset alternator, voltage reg, etc??
So: 1) does this make sense to the folks on here? 2) I think I have read it must be SLOW charge back to full and I can use my home charge at 2 amps 3) will I have this problem again in the future and how is it reset?
MANY thanks in advance, needless to say it sure ruined my weekend - GORGEOUS flying conditions here in NC
