Foreflight and synthetic vision

I'm just about to finish my PPL and am looking ahead to The instrument rating. I was wondering what everyone thinks about the use of foreflight and a stratus 2 with synthetic vision as a backup in case of vacuum failure or pitot static system failure. I realize the data is ground speed and not airspeed. I know the system is not a legal IFR platform but would you rely on it if you're in IMC and have these failures?
