I don't have a subscription so I can't read the article, but I don't understand how this could be a "record" since most early aviators had very few flight instruments. Did she not have an altimeter and compass? Or did she manage to make it without using a GPS?
My initial CFI would have had a problem with celebrating this since he distained using any electronic navigation means, and even radios. He had even embarked on an unsuccessful round-the-world flight in the 30's without them. He got tangled up in a thunderstorm, crashed in the jungle, and walked out to the nearest settlement, then back to salvage the engine from his Stinson.
