Yesterday was time to do my first database update on my GTN 650.

I'd been concerned about how long it would take, and whether I should hook up outside power to avoid draining my battery—in the event, I just swapped data cards in the GPS, turned on the battery and avionics master, and everything was done in a few seconds. Nice!

Also, I was flying into an airport surrounded by hills (Mont Laurier, CSD4), and the default terrain colouring—including the 3,000 ft hill a few miles to the north—popped up on the GTN at exactly the right moment, which would have been a comfort in IMC.
