FAA Introduces Controller Pilot Data Link Communications – Departure Clearance

How practical or economical would/could this be down the road with an iPad (or some other device)? It would be extremely nice to pick up IFR clearances on the ground a lot of places without having to call Lockheed Martin (although really that's not too hard these days).
