Greetings,
I recently had an annual completed on my PA-28-140 by a new A&P and I'm struggling a bit since they found a number of issues that I'm almost certain didn't happen in the last year/50 hours. I'm not gonna name names but here are a few things that were found:
1. Exhaust was loose, almost completely off one cylinder blowing gasses in cowling.
2. Exhaust Manafold clamps were bad.
3. Gear fiberglass faring was badly cracked/damaged
4. Loose/play in one of the main gear.
5. Leaking front strut.
6. Missing bolts/non-structural at least.
7. Mags out of time.
This is not the full list but just a few off the top of my head.
Anyway, none of the "issues" were expensive fixes but since there were so many my A&P took several photos/videos. A number of these were almost certainly in play in my prior annual which, I paid out the nose for because my prior logs were lost when my home burned down.
I don't think I was being "pencil whipped" by the new guy because the work was well documented and the repairs and inspections where actually less than the base rate quote of what a lot of folks for just the inspection.
I'm struggling with the fact that I had put a lot of trust in my old A&P and feel like a number of these were real safety issues that should have been addressed last year. My new guy was very nice/courteous about it but also seemed to be of the opinion that most of these didn't just "happen" in one year.
I'm feeling really good that my airplane was well inspected this time but also a little discouraged about the fact I went in thinking that we'd worked out most of the bugs already.
Maybe I'm making too much of it but is this normal when switching A&P's?
Just curious about everyone's thoughts? Thanks in advance.
