We lost all electrics today on our PA-28/181 Archer II. The failure came without the ALT annunciator light ever illuminating. Yes, the bulb works :)

Here's what happened. The electric trim was the first thing to go, followed by the turn coordinator, and then the avionics went one by one.

My partner landed safely. Obviously, the battery was dead when he landed. Anyone have any idea if this was the alternator, voltage regulator, or just a loose connection?

A few weeks ago I had noticed a high pitched (almost squeaking sound), but my A&P attributed that to the cold wx and perhaps a squeaky belt. The alternator was putting out 14.0V at that point and after airplane warmed up the sound seemed to disappear.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks!
