Hello All,

EarthX has the 12V FAA STC approval for installation of the ETX900-TSO battery in your PA-32 aircraft! (We also have STC's for the PA-12's, PA-18"s, PA-20's, PA-22's, PA-24's). EarthX is passionate about bringing this upgraded technology to all that want it at an affordable price, (it is not just for those who have the newly release Cirrus G7 that comes with an EarthX battery). We offer the STC paperwork completely free of charge! The battery costs $699 and is a 5.4 pound battery with cold cranking amps of 390 and 800 cranking amps on a warm day! Rated for a 6 year life. The battery will never freeze, boil over, sulfate or corrode. Check out more here: https://earthxbatteries.com/lithium-battery-solutions-for-certified-aircrafts/

I have had a chance today to review some posts and thank you to those who have already adopted this upgraded option, and we understand those who are skeptical of it. In order to achieve a TSO approved lithium battery, below is a SAMPLING (not all inclusive) of the required tests we must perform and pass which takes us well over a year to complete and is very expensive. The TSO approval is nothing compared to the STC approval and why so many companies do not pursue the certified aircraft market with new products as the barrier to market is steep! However, we are driven to provide an option to the 170+ year old battery technology that has been the standard. (Imagine if we still all used 35mm cameras? Or typewriters?) New battery technology will revolutionize the aircraft market. Here the list of tests:

Good Morning. What can you tell me about low temperature operations? Below freezing ? Looking for more input from those that have real world experience with this battery… PA32R-301T…. Mainly thinking about this battery for increase in useful load and improved CG… Thank You

Thank you for the question. The batteries are rated for -30 degrees Celsius or -22 degrees Fahrenheit. As starter batteries, and part of an electrical system, once you have the plane started, the flow of current will keep whatever battery you are using, lead acid or lithium, operating at above freezing temperatures.

We do have these batteries used in snowmobiles as well, and here is a copy of our FAQ page:

Will the battery work in my snowmobile when is it in extreme cold? (less than 0 deg F?)
All batteries lose cranking amps in colder temperatures. Every make, model, and year of vehicles has different amounts of cranking amps needed to turn the engine over. You also have to factor in the health and maintenance of the vehicle as well. So the answer is…… it depends. Some vehicles have no issues starting at -25F while some could have issues at -5F. What is unique about a lithium battery is you can warm the internal components by simply trying to start your vehicle. Do not try starting your vehicle for more than 10 seconds per minute as that is not good for your vehicle or battery, but after attempting to start the vehicle, wait one minute, try again. Depending on the amount of warming up needed to get the desired cranking amps, the number of times needed to do this varies.

We also have a FACT SHEET on this topic you might also like to read: https://earthxbatteries.com/earthx-...phosphate-battery-cold-temperature-operation/

There is a lot of confusion in the difference between a deep cycle lithium battery and sub zero temperatures vs. a starter lithium battery. They are not the same and are used very differently. Hopefully this information answers your questions but please feel free to reach out to our tech department by phone: 1.970.674.8884 ext 1, or email us at [email protected].

We are happy to help.
