Getting deeper into IFR training and starting to really notice patterns in the performance of all my instruments including the DG. There are entire flights when it seems solid as a rock and locked on to the vertical card compass- I set the DG and 45 minutes later it is still holding well. Then there are other times it seems like it's drifting a lot.

Today we were practicing holds- CFI had me reduce power to between 2100 and 2300 Rpm (at 4000 feet in the hold). The DG seemed to drift significantly after every 180 degree turn. All turns were at standard rate.

Is it time to overhaul the DG? Or look into the vacuum system?

As a side note my attitude indicator shows the slightest bank to the right in straight and level flight.
