The wife & I went for a short flight today, a little on the early side. I think we were the 1st off the airport since it was on the edge of being foggy. When I 1st lined up there were about 40 seagulls grouped together about < 2000' down the runway. I though I better scare them as I've done before, so I taxi on down, move them along, then pull off & taxi back to the start.
As I start lining up again I see a coyote near the same area, just off the runway, sniffing around. This time I add some power & as I approach he gets the idea & moves on. I've had to move the seagulls before, 1st flight of the day. I also came fairly close to some birds while landing a while back, they were on or near the runway.
I had a buddy who mentioned pushing geese off before takeoff. These seagulls are just about always there early in the morning. Do any of you have similar conditions? Has a guy ever hit seagulls or geese that were on the runway during takeoff? I ask because in many cases they probably move out ahead of you, but as speed builds they could easily be a factor.
