Corrosion on forward spar attach bracket

Looking for suggestions here. I had my Archer in the shop for some work. While it was there they did an annual on it. One thing they found was some corrosion on the right forward spar attach bolt and bracket. I've attached the picture that I got. Shop wants to clean it up and has already notified Piper and the FAA. I have not seen it in person as I'm in Australia and the plane is in Pennsylvania. I realize there may be little information here. I'd be interested in the community's thoughts.

When I got the plane the door seal leaked. Flying in the rain you would actually get wet. I believe the rust is likely sourced from the water that leaked in through the bad seal. I did replace the seal when I did the interior last year.
