Interesting article about Chicago's contribution during WWll. I may have posted it some years ago under a different title but I couldn't locate it. Particularly interesting to me is the Ford City area just south of Midway airport that now houses a mall and the Tootsie Roll Factory. The Tootsie Roll factory is largely intact from the days it was a Dodge Plant converted to make B-29 engines. You can almost hear the muffled roar from those stacks when you drive by on Cicero Avenue.
One has to wonder if there would be labor pool capability today able to ramp up if there was again a need.
