Hi. I'm finally soon going to start working towards ppl. I've been researching planes a lot and seem to think that Piper lines are what I want to get to know. My thought is to get into a Cherokee 180 and then buy up to a comanche once I have IFR cert and hours to lower insurance cost for the complex. My eventual typical mission will be Dallas to Denver, and Dallas to EGE (my wife's family lives in Denver and it might be an easier sell if I can show her we'll see them more).

What else should I be considering, does it make sense to use the Cherokee as a stepping stone to a comfortable cross country aircraft? Money is always a consideration. We're a family of 3 now but will be a family of 4 in the next couple of years.
