Here goes...

Hi everyone - new to the forum as of a few hours ago - wow, pleasantly surprised & loaded with insightful information. Greatly appreciated.

I’m a brand new pilot with a new to me, 18 months, PA-28-235. With lycoming O-540.

Trying to take good care of my old plane - at my first oil change I added the prescribed amount of CamGuard, and occasionally as I add half a quart every once in a long while.

I shouldn’t say this but - the engine uses very little oil, drips not one drop.

50 hours later...

My annual is due the A&P finds the tiniest several metal flakes in the oil filter, screen was clear... barely visible to the naked eye...

This is the A&P that has maintained this aircraft the past 12 years...

Naturally - he brought this to my attention & said - fly the plane 25 hours, change the oil we will look at the filter...

Erring on caution & my nerves, remember I’m a brand new pilot, he bore scoped all 6 cylinders & smooth as silk - each of them...

The annual resulting compressions between 74 & 77 on all cylinders...

The engine has 1258 hours since SMOH, so I’m closing the gap slowly but surely...

My point & question - does CamGuard work as a dispersing agent as well as an anti corrosive? The plane has been maintained very well - that said, never a flake in the filter - da, da - until now.

Could the flakes have been disbursed by the addition of CamGuard? CamGuard having never been previously used in this engine...

I well remember coming home with our new born infant daughter & thinking - what do I do now...

Well ladies & gentlemen - the feeling has returned...

Thank you in advance for any thoughts or curse words....

Cheers,

Kevin
