Hi all.
Happy New Year!
Well, I got through my first OA annual. That was awesome. I learned a great deal about the 180 and was able to really dig in and wrench-which I love to do.
Anyway..carb was replaced this year with a new one. What a difference in cold starting!
But it got me thinking...
I understand the basics of the carb circuit. What I am trying to understand is the relationship between the throttle position/jetting and the Idle Cut off.
Now, I am assuming by its very name that the idle control is designed to affect only a small portion of the fuel flow i.e. either idle operations OR leaning which both dont require a lot of fuel to accomplish in function.
However and to my question...how can the process for a Hot start be to have the idle mixture OFF?? Does the fact that the throttle is supposed to be in the 1/2 way point essentially open up the circuit enough to by pass enough of the idle control to not matter? It must I suppose.
And the converse must apply that when the throttle is at its lowest i.e. idle conditions that the jetting/circuit for the throttle operations (non idle) is at 0 (well barely cracked) because the idle control is what CAN shut off the engine if it is turned off or keep it running at a setting from Rich to Right to Lean.
I know most of this is rhetorical lol. But just making sure I am on the track with this.
Thanks
