Climbing out yesterday under the good with my CFI, the forward baggage door blows open at about 2000 ft. We landed and found the lock in the locked position. I know it was secure prior to takeoff because if the lock is not secure behind the striker plate, the door cocks open about 1".

On closer inspection we found that the lever on the lock was only catching the striker by about 1/16" so any flex in the door or airframe could cause it to come free. Added a spacer under the striker which should solve the problem. Fortunately, the door stayed on the plane and there was no damage.
