I am doing a lot of clean up work on my newly acquired 180 and I noticed the rubber boot that directs air into the air box that houses the air filter was collapsed into itself and seemed to block more air than it allows into the filter housing. I am in the process of designing a stay to keep the rubber boot formed to the rectangle that loosely goes into the rectangle hole in the filter box. Even if I do that it seems like there should be a better method to seal that air channel into the box. Since there is not a positive seal the engine has to be drawing in warm air from inside the cowling due to the loose fit. I can see where it might be allowing cool air into the cowled area and directing cool air to the air cleaner box too. Am I missing something here or is that the normal installation on all Cherokees?
