We lost a good physician yesterday, he crashed on approach around the eldorado arizona ( south arkansas regional airport).
Very sad, this gentleman is known to me, his hangar faces mine. Flew his Beechcraft A33 for 5 hours 35 minutes before he crashed on approach.
I am not trying to restart the most debated discussion about the safety of general aviation, Its just that everytime something like this happens, especially when you know the pilot, his experience and supposedly his stable personnality AND the mechanic who works on his plane, you go looking for answers to explain the unexplainable.
The last time this happened to me it gave me cold feet for a year before I found out that the victim was trying to roll a baron at low altitude before he went into an accelerated stall burning alive on the ground.
This time, it is slightly less simple. The only thing I can think of is got-to-get-itis causing fuel exaustion exacerbated by with headwinds with a diversion around atlanta for weather.
I hope somebody knows more...
