1978 Piper Archer engine old but low hours

Hi all, in the process of purchasing my first aircraft, a 1978 Piper Archer, engine around 1000 hrs since OH 17 years ago. Would you recommend replacing it? How reliable is engine with that sort of life? Appreciate your advice in advance.
