If you can get up to the jet stream the wind is very reliable.  On one of his flights from Minnesota to Massachusetts, at 23,000 ft my son picked up a 120 mph tailwind. That almost doubled his ground speed. That was more than usual, but it's always there.  Returning West he flies at 9,000 ft or lower.


Remember the  "Mooney tailwind"
