The ratcheting mechanism on my flap handle is worn to the point where I can't always pull the bar up without pressing the button down. Sometimes it gets stuck. If it does it's easy to resolve by pushing the button.

I deal with this by always pushing the button when I pull, so it doesn't really bother me. Is there a safety issue I'm not seeing here?
