I have a 1962 pa28 180, serial #831. The plane belonged to the same family until 2005 with less than 2000 hrs on the airframe when it received its first paint job. I'm somewhat of a purest when it comes to keeping things stock. She doesn't have the typical step bar attached to the fuselage, and there is absolutely no evidence that there ever was one. So the 1st step is on the wing, as I don't like stepping on the flap. I've had my A&P, as well as the FAA examiner who gave me my check ride both tell me that it must have had one, but it must have been removed. I don't buy it! The skin is untouched. Does anyone know if the early pa28s (1st year) had this feature excluded? I don't want to get talked into altering my stock '62.
