I am going to upgrade my Nav/com/GPS to the Garmin GTN 650, or Avidyne 530 or comparable GPS radio as I plan to start IFR rating next year. One squawk that I experience is frequently (1 every 5 flights) where my communications radio is full of interference or static and my range while talking with ATC (when using flight following VFR) is shorter than in other airplanes I have flown in.

Wondering if when I upgrade my NAV/GPS package, if that will likely improve my communications issues as well? Currently have what appears to be original 1977 comm radios.

Thoughts?
