Why does Archer II have a 49KIAS Vso and the Archer III have 45KIAS?

I know they made many small changes over the years from the start of Archer II in 1976 to the current Archer III, but many occurred as Piper updates to the Archer II. I can see that my 1985 Archer has improved wheel pants, wing tip fairings, no rotating anticollision light and possibly other minor changes. The big change I see in the Archer III is the improved engine cowling. Did the new cowling drop Vso by 4 knots or is it really a combination of all changes since 1976?

I ask this question because I fly into a short field and my 1985 Archer floats for longer than I want even when I slow it down to roughly 58KIAS on final at low weight. Note that 1.3Vso is 64KIAS at max gross for Archer II.

I plan on doing some descent MCA testing (at altitude) to see what IAS the stall speed is to get the stall warning to come on.
