This week its time for my first run through annual as the owner of a 1968 -180D. Were going to weigh the airplane, primarily because I just want to know what it really weighs, and secondly, all the W&B forms for the past 50 years seem to use the calculated method, with no record of anyone actually weighing the airplane.
So since Im stuck in a hotel on a terrible layover, Ive been reading up on the procedures to weigh the airplane. Ive got the AFM, the POH leveling instructions, the FAAs W&B Handbook, and the Service manual. Obviously, Im not the brains of the outfit, the IA will be doing the job, but Id like to have a good idea about the actual process. We are going to defuel it and since its a CAR 3 airplane, drain the oil as well...its gotta be changed anyway.
Is there anything else to think of? For the math, the service manual has station distances for the nose and wheels, are these the arm to use? Im still looking for the arm for the oil when its added back in.
Any insight or advice is appreciated.
