Perhaps think of it as a gradient, that starts at the lowest point, but has a relatively constant slope. If the outside is hotter, then the inside will be hotter (and higher pressure) as well. The heat has to have somewhere to go, and the "slower" you take it away, the more it accumulates.


If you block or disadvantage the cooling of one or more cylinders, you will overheat them. Ad absurdum, if you took off with the cowl plugs still in place, although you are still producing about the same amount of heat energy, you will very quickly overheat and detonate.
