Background: new to us 1976 pa28-181 archer that we bought 90 days ago and completed a major overhaul on the o-360 (we bought it with the engine in pieces so that was budgeted in). We have 25 hours on her now and I love it! We bought it with an stec-30 AP, PM2000 intercom, King 89 gps, electronic egt, JPI fuel scan 450. Radios are King kx155(com1) and kx170b(com2) and kt76a transponder.
So I have a line on a garmin 430w/530w (both units) and a garmin 340 audio panel for $15k. The price seems good. I have the repair shop we use giving a quote on installation - he thought it would take 2 weeks (so I figure 4-6k for that). One plan is to install the entire stack which would remove both King radios. We are also talking about installing status adsb at same time (IA said stratus will probably be half of what garmin adsb solution will be). Another plan is to install just the 530w and 340 (adsb as well) and sell the 430w off keeping the kx155. At least the gps will be able to be tied into the stec30 and have heard that the JPI 450 can interface as well with the Gps.
What are my pitfalls -- what am I not thinking about? No one is IFR certified but that training is coming soon after my busy season at work. We have a great comfortable plane. We are not "upside down" on what we have in it for purchase and overhaul. I know avionics don't give great return on investment but I didn't into this plane as an investment.
Thanks
Dan
