My 1999 Saragota turbo tc ii just frozen up the other day and I could not get beyond 2000 RPM and approximately 2200 MP. I throttled full forward without any such luck for full power and aborted a takeoff. I have approximately 50 to 55 hrs on a new turbo and engine OH by Penn Yan. It happened four days ago and I contacted Bartelt Aviation and the diagnoses was clench over the phone by Larry. I had the mechanic at OSU look at things and sure enough it was a frozen turbo. They were able to "unfreeze" it and now it's working nicely on just ground run up checks. An older mechanic spun it with just his index finger (so did I) prior to hooking things back up and it was very smooth without any catching.
My first flight in the air will be tomorrow and I was given assurances that likely this won't happen again. This was most likely just a fluke because maybe the oil that lubricates the unit "got caked" inside when the engine didn't get to spool down long enough before turning off the engine. I have never had this happen before even with the older engine before it was OH(total time in type ~175 hrs). My last training flight a few weeks ago was very hot outside 95F and I remember spooling her down as usual. I will just stay in the pattern and be keen on any signs of trouble. Has this ever happened to anyone with a frozen turbo? I'm still planning for the AMP in Michigan to look at it closer at some point. Should I be "afraid" with doing further local flights or everything "should be good to go" ? Thanks ahead of for all your inputs!
