philiplane ...  You did not adress my point.  In the process of installing a tube, new or old, into a tire, new or old, it is necessary to slightly inflate the tube.  In my experience, the old tube may indeed be stretched, but not enough to be a problem.  It will still be a loose fit once you get it into the tire, and that is why you inflate it in several psi steps, and bounce the wheel between inflations.
