Hello all. I'm looking to finally take the plunge into ownership on a 79 Archer II and wanted to get some thoughts on skipping a pre-buy inspection.

The plane I am looking at is a 1/4 share. I would be buying out one of the current partners who is selling his share to pay for his wedding. The plane is in great shape. The interior was completely redone in 2014, paint is in good shape, engine is ~160 hrs SMOH, and is well equipped for an IFR plane which is my main mission (finishing my IFR rating). The annual was just done in September my the local A&P who is well known in the area and has done work on every plane I've flown so far and found no issues. All the log books are complete.

So my question is, since I'm comfortable with the A&P, the plane is in current operation by 3 other partners plus the one I'm looking at buying out till he sells his share, I'm considering foregoing the pre-buy inspection to save on acquisition cost. I am planning on having an A&P at another local airport review the log books just to check and make sure everything is on the up and up and nothing got missed, just from human error. I am also planning on talking to the A&P who did the last annual and seeing what his thoughts were on the plane. Make sure he doesn't have any horror stories of the owners skipping some recommended maintenance or anything crazy like that.

So here I am. Wanted to get some feedback from guys who own and have gone through purchases to see what your thoughts are on this. Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks!
