A friend at the airport relayed his recent experience with his Lycoming IO-360 (Rv-7) experiencing a stuck valve in flight shortly after takeoff. His engine had just over 400 hours with Millennium cylinders, He bent a push rod as well. He referenced the Lycoming Service Instruction 1425 for reaming the valve guides and thought it should be performed every 400 hours. I could not find the 400 hours referenced in the SL. However, I did see the 400 hour reference in SB388 valve wobble test. I was aware of the SL and SB but had never had it performed. My engine has about 1900 hours on it now and while I am of the mind that if ain't broke don't fix, I don't want to ignore potential issues either. I service my slick mags every 500 hours. I have never had any indications that my engine has morning sickness or other valve issues.
The question I have is, does anyone perform the wobble test or ream the valve stems on time or only if they experience some engine issues like morning sickness?
