So I just had my annual done and had some avionics work done. I had an MX-11 Com removed and had a KX-155 put in with a KI-209A indicator. I had to have my stack moved around and my PMA 4000 moved over into the stack. (It was mounted in an empty instrument hole in the panel. The PMA 4000 was moved over to the right 6 inches and put in the bottom of the stack so that it didn't have to have the entire harness lengthened. The Avionics guy told me that labor wise it would be about a full day to do the install. 8-10 hours @$85 per hour. When I got the bill I was shocked that it took 25 hours of labor to do what I listed above. I was shocked and wanted to know what everyone thinks? I spoke to the Avionics Technician and he told me that he actually had more hours in it than that, but didn't feel right charging me for any more. HE said because I have a 63 Cherokee and it doesn't have normal updated rails and changing out the harnesses he had to rewire them instead of being able to use some of the harness that was already there. He also said that he had to go into the PMA 4000 connector and change everything around to move Nav/COM 1 down to where COM 2 was and HAd to rewire the connector for NAV/COM 1 to accept the KX-155. Originally it was a KX-125 for NAV/COM 1 and an MX-11 for COM 2. Now it is the 155 for NC 1 and the 125 for NC 2 plus wiring for the KI-209. Is $2125 for the labor on this install unreasonable. The system works great and am happy with the install, just shocked to see the big jump in labor cost.
