It started with my old MZ 4204 drive gear dragging on the flywheel. Turn the prop by hand; hear and feel the starter engaged and turning.

Never did it before, anytime I pull the prop thru I could feel the smooth feel of pistons going up and down.

Took the starter out, and the prop felt like my old friend again. It is a direct drive so changing out the Bendix drive not an option.

Got a nice rebuilt drive from Falcon in Meza AZ. Put it in and did not change the problem. It cranks great, but drive does not dis-engaged.

It is weird that two different starters have the same problem. The prop and flywheel are on straight.
