My 0-360 PA-28 140 needs to be on the left mag for starting. After start the mag switch is moved to both. If not the engine will kick back when starting. The engine has Bendix mags installed....

According to Paul a 50 year old wise mechanic on the field, the left mag ******* when starting to TDC to get the engine going because of the impulse coupler on the left mag. The right mag is at 25 degrees BTDC. After starting the left mag then ******* back to 25 degrees BTDC.....I think I have this right!?

This prodecure is required with Bendix mags. The down side is sometimes I forget to put the switch to both after starting. 🥶 I always catch it using the check list but ............

I think if when I get a few bucks I am going to get one of those new solid state mags for the the left side and avoid this!.......and get better starts and smoother running according to the mag manufacturer.....I hope
