There was a piper advertised for sale from a flight school here in the last year, that had like 3200 hours plus on the engine. Why had this specific plane been able to go beyond the normal 2000 hour rebuild. A response from the owner of the flight school... IIRC, was that it was in use and no hot starts, and it was flying fine. What gives when it comes from regulations or recommendations?
