Got my fourth Special Issuance yesterday. Four years of annual hell but I wont go into that. Anyway, the SI is good to 2026. I asked my regional Flight Surgeon contact to explain that and he said new policy is all repeatable SIs are now six years. There is still an annual requirement for the necessary exam/test. Only the directions for renewal in 2021 were included in the SI however.
As a lawyer, I am cognizant that even a presumption in favor of renewal of an SI, rather than starting from scratch each year, may have value. If the presumption is coupled with a more abbreviated set of requirements or a more abbreviated process this could mean significant progress.
For the present, I guess things won't be clear until a year from now.
