Here s picture of the backrest stop on my Cherokee seat. It failed on me once during preflight just because the bolt which rests in the stop is bent and when turned 90 degree can move enough to miss resting on the stop. Seems like some makeshift arrangement from past or that’s how they are supposed to be? Can someone share a picture of mechanism from your pane please.

Besides tightening the nut what can I do to make sure the backrest would have a positive stop always. Seems it could cause a disaster if it fails during excessive back pressure during a climb making pilot fall backwards. Thoughts?
